My "Ode to Joy"

I was talking to a table of customers at lunch today, and in describing the moment I lift the pan lid on my favorite chicken stew with cream and Reisling,  I told them that "Ode to Joy" plays in my head!  One of them suggested that I collect those special recipes in a cookbook and I realized that I've started listing those recipes here, for you.  I've loved enjoying flavors and interesting aspects of food all my life.  I have been an eater.  Now, I cook.

Lately I've noticed a rash of articles on what chefs eat. After tiny-tasting all day, it's amazing that any of us could still be hungry, but the day ends, the time comes...we need to eat...maybe for the first time that day.  For me personally, and I'm in the majority here, I can't stand the idea of heating or cooking another single thing.  My choices now are more instinctive.  I want a Milky Way candy bar.  I want a tablespoon of peanut butter, I want fast food.  One of the chefs in the chef-food articles was a guy who can't stand to touch a knife or fork after work!    I understand that aversion completely.  My joy now, is in the preparation and the presentation.  My music is in the kitchen.  My favorite recipes are the things I've loved to eat and share with family and friends.  Now though, those are the foods that I know will be cherished by the eaters out there!  And "Ode to Joy" plays on for me.
